Malestroit is a French town, situated in the department of Morbihan and the region of Brittany.

The distance between Malestroit and the capital Paris is 430 kilometers.

Here is the City hall of Malestroit.

We also have a church.

Here is the center of Malestroit. It is a “flower city” because there are lots of flowers.

Malestroit is crossed by the ‘Nantes to Brest canal’. In summer there are boats going along the canal.

This is the Memorial of Malestroit. It honors the soldiers who died during the war.

We also have a cinema, this is the place where we watch movies.

And finally here is the public elementary school.

This part is the primary school.

The biggest Festival in Nepal !

•November 1, 2010 • 1 Comment

In Nepal, we just celebrated the Festival of Dashain. It’s the biggest festival of Nepal. Hinduist people celebrates it so it’s not only in Nepal but also in India and in countries around Nepal. It’s called Durga Navratras in India.

Dashain is a big festival of hindu people. During Dashain, a lot of swings in bamboo are made and we also fly kites. We also get new clothes and eat very good food. It’s celebrated in October and it’s the biggest holiday of the year in Nepal. It lasts fifteen days, schools are all closed during that time. On the last day of Dashain, we all get tika.
Rupesh Shrestha
Dashan is a big festival of nepali people. We celebrate it for fifteen days.
The first day is called Ghatasthapara. We worship the goddess Durga during Dashain.
Tika is a red thing we put on the “front” of everybody the last day of Dashain, it’s the mix of many things like rice, yoghurt and also a red and yellow powder. We put red tika on children and people and you can see older people with a yellow one.
During Dashain, we also sacrifice a lot of animals like goats and cocks for hinduist gods, but we also offer coconuts when we don’t have any animal to offer. We either sacrifice animals at the temple where we offer it to gods or at home.
Harry Krishna Adhikari
We receive tika from elder people and also get money. During Dashain, we also eat meat and sweets. Some people only eat meat during Dashain !
Jaya Shrestha
During Dashain, I will go to my maternal uncle home to celebrate it with all the family.
The religious festival lasts 10 days, but we are on vacation for fifteen days.
Sachina Shrestha
Our relatives come from very long distances, by bus, we all celebrate Dashain in the villages of our families. We sacrifice goats, hen, male buffalos, ducks, etc…
Prabha Shrestha
During Dashain, tika represents the victory over the enemy that the goddess Durga got over the demon. It’s on the fifth day we sacrifice animals. For Nepalese people, Dashain is the victory over the enemy.
Bidhya Adhikari
“Everybody is happy on Dashain, and no one is sad. My friend will come to my home and get tika and eat meat and rice.”
Sagun Koc

Below you can see pictures of people getting Tika, people in front of hinduist temples selling coconuts and flowers to offer to Gods during Dashain, women during a ceremony at temple and a picture of the goddess Durga !

In France, we speak French everywhere. France’s capital is Paris. Paris is a big city: it has 2 000 000 inhabitants. In Paris, there is one really famous monument : it is the Effeil Tower.

The president of France is Nicolas Sarkozy, France is a republic. Our national anthem is ‘la marseillaise’.

France is bordered with Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxemburg and Italy. England also, but there is a sea between England and France. It is called The Channel, in French ‘La Manche’.

Traditional Breton music

•October 30, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Breton music is the musical expression of Brittany.

History:
It is not possible to separate the Breton music from the history of “Bretagne”. Its survival has always been considered a sign of resistance. Thanks to this mobilization, Brittany has been able to keep its culture alive and authentic… so that today Brittany’s musical heritage is rich and varied. The strength of Breton music is to have evolved over time after assimilating different external inputs.
Chants:
The songs are very varied and of plural kinds. They accompany daily life, work rhythm, host events and popular festivals.

Music in Nepal !

•October 18, 2010 • Leave a Comment

None of us plays music, though music is very important here. If you come to Nepal, you will mostly here traditionnal music, inspired either by hinduist or buddhist religion, it’s everywhere in the streets and villages because of hinduist temples and buddhist stuppas everywhere. It’s different from a cast to another. Here you can see pictures of us (Prabha, Sagun Koc, Sajani, Susma, Roji) while a day when we danced in last september ! We trained and presented our dance to all the pupils of the school. This dance is a mix of traditionnal nepali music and indian dance.

And here are some schoolmates of the class 4. It’s a different dance. A very traditionnal nepali dance of Magar people, of tibeto-birman origin. You have to know that influences in Nepal come from two sides : Tibet and India. Nepal is the meeting of these two cultures. We are very tolerant people because there are a lot of different people in our country, with different religions.

And here are some nepali songs that are Magar !

AND YOU, DO YOU HAVE TRADITIONNAL MUSIC ? WHAT MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO ?
